Inaugural dive camp for children with disabilities

Diveheart is proud to announce its inaugural dive camp for children with disabilities, aptly named MASSC (Marine Adaptive Sea & Scuba Camp) !!

This August 2018, 4 children, aged 10+, will spend a week in Key Largo, FL learning about:

  • Coral reef systems & how to protect and restore them
  • Common sea life found in the Florida Keys & how to properly identify them while diving;
  • The ocean ecosystem & how to be good stewards of the ocean; and
  • Locally endangered animals & visit an endangered turtle rehabilitation center (Turtle Hospital).

This camp will be fully inclusive, providing room and board for each camper and a family member or caregiver. Campers will stay in wheelchair accessible hotel rooms at Courtyard by Marriott, and dive with Rainbow Reef Dive Center, which is located next door. Diveheart's highly trained volunteers will serve as certified adaptive dive buddies so that each camper will have a safe and supported open ocean scuba experience.

Diveheart relies entirely on generous donations and bighearted volunteers.

Rainbow Reef Dive Center ( in Key Largo has already pledged:

  • 3 days of open ocean diving
  • Instructors/divemasters and guides for each dive
  • Rental gear, including weights, regulators, protective layers (wetsuits, dive skins, etc.), and fins

To help make MASSC a reality, we still need:

  • Airplane miles or donations to purchase tickets for our campers with disabilities and their families
  • Marriott or IHG hotel points or donations to cover accessible hotel rooms
  • Loyalty points or donations to cover rental cars
  • Donations to cover meals and snacks
  • Donations to cover admission to the Turtle Hospital and the History of Diving Museum

Remember, water provides the perfect gravity-free environment for those who might otherwise struggle on land. Underwater, we're all equal!

Incorporated in 2001, Diveheart is a nonprofit tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization that works to build confidence, independence, and self-esteem in children, adults and veterans with disabilities through scuba diving, scuba therapy, and related activities.
